iRest is based on the ancient meditative practice, Yoga Nidra, that simply and systematically helps induce deep relaxation by reducing the core symptoms of insomnia; physical, emotional, mental, and subconscious stress and tension. iRest differs from sleep where sleep is a state of unconscious rest, while iRest is a form of conscious rest. iRest is a complimentary adjunctive medical (CAM) approach for people who are having sleep issues or who are vulnerable to or experiencing insomnia or sleep-deprivation:

  • Compassionate Care Givers
  • Emergency and First response teams
  • Hospital staff
  • Active Duty Military
  • Veterans
  • Students
  • Job Seekers or those changing jobs
  • People experiencing difficult financial burdens
  • People are simply working too hard and too long
  • Athletes
  • Businessmen and women coping with competition

Insomnia and sleep deprivation are important underlying factors in many psychological and physical disorders. iRest uses 10 simple steps or protocols that provide people with the tools to create a resiliency to stress and insomnia. That in turn decreases susceptibility to sleep disturbances, physical injury, depression, anxiety and PTSD. Ultimately iRest supports health and well-being in all aspects of one’s life: physical, mental and spiritual. The practice of iRest is designed to provide you with tools for putting joy into your life. iRest can help people with sleep disorders and all other states of body and mind that you will encounter during the course of your lifetime.

Research In-depth research focusing on conscious sleep has produced insight into the way we think and learn. Studies have shown that sleep is vital for our health, mood, memory consolidation and ethical decision-making processes. Napping, in particular, provides a surprising level of contribution to wellness and cognition, even the same level of benefit for memory as a full night of sleep. Since napping and getting a full night’s sleep are often unavailable in the lives of many people these days, especially those working in stressful jobs, childbearing parents, active duty soldiers, healthcare workers and first responders, among others, alternative methods for achieving restorative rest, such as Integrative Restoration - iRest, are important practices that need to be readily available to the general public. The benefits of meditation, and iRest in particular, have been documented and include decreased stress, enhanced mood, improved sleep quality, and interestingly in some cases, decreased need for sleep. Meditation and iRest studies that have been conducted report:

Decreases in:

  • Personal comfort and better understand situations you can’t control
  • Ability to pause and make better decisions
  • an improved sense of ease and well-being
  • Improving relationships and self-esteem
  • Brain regions associated with attention and sensory processing, including the prefrontal cortex suggesting that meditation offsets age-related cortical thinning
  • Enhancement in REM and slow wave sleep, indicating that meditation may help to retain a younger biological age in terms of sleep.

iRest classes are offered by our teachers around the world. Richard has been told that people are falling asleep all over the world to the sound of his voice while listening to his CD.
