As a yoga therapist I love working with all types of people, especially our veterans and their families. When I started practicing yoga after retiring from the Army I had no idea what it was going to do for me, I just knew I needed something to help heal the mental, physical, and emotional damage I had experienced due to serving over two decades in the Army. Please take a few minutes to this watch video here produced by AARP in March 2017. At first I was skeptical, thinking yoga was not something "real men" do, but quickly found out how mistaken I was; yoga has amazing physical benefits, but that’s only the beginning. What I also found is that yoga helped me during the process of healing from PTSD and a lifelong struggle with eating disorders. Read my story here. If only I had the tools of yoga earlier to help me with the stress of extremely long and arduous deployments and separations from family. Once I began yoga I never stopped, and since then have undergone extensive training in yoga therapy, yoga teaching, and specialty yoga training in working with military populations with trauma. My education, coupled with my own personal experiences have given me a unique ability to understand your needs and truly help guide you towards better physical, emotional, and mental health. It is so satisfying and meaningful to me to be able to connect with and help others, especially those who have bravely and selflessly served our country. I graduated in July 2017 with a Master of Science degree in yoga therapy from Maryland University of Integrative Health - the first and only educational institution in the United States to offer an M.S. in Yoga Therapy. I am certified (C-IAYT) with the International Association of Yoga Therapists and am registered with Yoga Alliance as a Yoga Teacher, RYT-500, RYT-200. I'm also an iRest® Yoga Nidra Teacher in Training, and Warriors at Ease Teacher. Originally from the California Bay Area, I'm currently calling Tacoma, Washington home and serving as the yoga therapist in the Interdisciplinary Pain Management Clinic at Madigan Army Medical Center, Joint Base Lewis-McChord. Connect with me on Facebook here Previous Education: I graduated Magna Cum Laude with B.S. in Exercise Science from the University of Tampa ('96) and was selected as the #1 Army ROTC graduate in the United States the same year. Athletics: I have extensive running and triathlon experience and was my NCAA Conference Cross Country champion ('95) and two time Academic All-American athlete. I have a personal best marathon time of 2h:42m (Boston '96).
