Dr. Westergaard is a licensed Clinical Neuropsychologist, specializing in the  science of brain-behavior relationships and clinical neuroscience.  She received a Master's Degree in Philosophy of Science at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1984, a Master's Degree in Cognitive Psychology in 1991, and a Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology in 1994.  Dr. Westergaard completed a two year, post-doctoral Residency in Clinical Neuropsychology at Northwestern University in 1995, mentored by Dr. Jerry Sweet, ABPP.

Dr. Westergaard worked for two years in Chicago on inpatient TBI rehabilitation units at Christ Hospital, then moved to Sitka, AK in 1997 to work with the Indian Health Service.  In 2000, she formed a small private practice group and joined medical staff at Sitka Community Hospital.  Inpatient and outpatient clinical services include neuropsychological assessment of TBI/CHI, neurological, cardiovascular and psychiatric disorders; treatment modalities include cognitive rehabilitation, cognitive-behavioral therapy, biofeedback/neurofeedback and mindfulness training (e.g., PTSD, Anxiety, Depression, Chronic Pain, Coping with medical conditions).  Dr. Westergaard is a member of the National Academy of Neuropsychology and the American Psychological Association, and a member of the iRest Teacher's Network.

With a strong committment to living Intentionally in Community, she served on a local women's shelter (SAFV) board for 13 years, and on the Sitka Summer Music Festival Board for 6 years.  She offers pro-bono services in her clinical practice.  She values traveling and  experiencing cultural diversity and promoting mindfulness world-wide.
